My dad was producing a show and they needed a kid who looked like a California looking kid, and I was about 6 years old, and they threw me into that, and that’s what put me into film and TV.

You were a child voice acting star, how did you first get into that? And I started getting really into musical theater, improv comedy, and anything where I could get out in front of people and start performing. After that I dove head first into music, and joined every other class I could. He was brilliant and terrifying and he knew I could sing, so he sort of blackmailed me - he told me he’d fail me if I didn’t join his choir class next year. I went to Agoura High School, which is a pretty arts-friendly school, the Foxygen guys came out of there so that’s how I knew those guys, and I had an amazing music teacher named John Mosley, he pretty much ran everything - the jazz, choral - but when I met him I was a Math student of his and I wasn’t taking any music. I grew up in Agoura Hills, California, which is about an hour or two north of Los Angeles, kind of where the Malibu area is but just inland of that. How did you first start making music and when that passion developed?

Listen To Diane Coffee's #TBT Mixtape, Featuring Songs From The Former Foxygen Drummer's Favorite… After inking a deal with indie imprint Western Vinyl, Shaun released his debut LP under the moniker - My Friend Fish - in 2013, followed by his proper breakthrough record Everybody’s a Good Dog in 2015, which earned him widespread praise that included a NPR Tiny Desk slot, comparisons to Mick Jagger and David Bowie, as well as a co-sign from Run the Jewels, who sampled his song “Crown.” This year, Fleming returned with the glorious two-track 7-inch PEEL, via Polyvinyl, eyeing a proper third full-length in 2018. Soon after, the genderless, all-encompassing live force that is Diane Coffee was born. The experience gave him a leg up in the biz, after years spent trying to start a project in Los Angeles. Shaun Fleming is a true triple threat. A former child voice actor, whose credits include early roles in Kim Possible, Lilo and Stitch: The Series and Jeepers Creepers II, the Bloomington, Indiana-based wunderkind was also briefly a “semi-pro skateboarder” and, more famously, the drummer of California indie rock outfit Foxygen during their fast rise back in 2012.
